The Language Acquisition and Brain Lab at Northeastern University is recruiting participants for research

This study aims to gain insight into how sleep plays a role in speech/language learning. The goals of this investigation are to discover the optimal training schedule for:

  1. Speech sound retention and

  2. Reflexive vs. reflective category learners in both TD adults and adults with DLD.

Participants are asked to complete one 2-hour Zoom session, during which various assessments are administered to get a language/reading profile (compensated $20). Then, they will complete one or both of our week-long experiments. Experiment 1 consists of an in-person equipment pickup, three 20 minute remote sessions during the week, and an in-person EEG session. Experiment 2 is fully remote and consists of 3-4 30-minute sessions during the week. Participants are compensated $100 for each week-long experiment they complete. In-person sessions for Experiment 1 are completed on the Northeastern University campus in Boston, MA or the University of Delaware campus in Newark, DE.

Participants must be:

  • 18-55 years old

  • Have typical hearing and vision (or corrected to normal)

  • Be a native speaker of American English

  • Have access to a quiet space at home

  • Have no history of a major neurological injury or socioemotional disorder (such as ASD), or be on a medication that interferes with sleep
